Agency Predicts Flooding In Lagos, Kaduna, Yola, Five Other Cities



Flood increasing
State governments have been advised to urgently build artificial reservoirs for storing excess water in a swift action to reduce the impact of the flood being predicted.

The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, which gave the advice has predicted flash flood in Lagos, Ibadan, Port Harcourt, Sokoto, Kaduna, Maiduguri, Makurdi and Yola.

The agency’s Director General Dr. Moses Beckley spoke at an event for unveiling of the 2016 annual flood outlook.

Some other analysts have also advised governments both at state and local to clear blocked drainage to enable free flow of water and reduce flooding. 

The Niger Basin Authority issued an alert that the country might experience the repeat of 2012 devastating flood in the coming days, due to heavy rainfall in the Sahel region , upper north , which has increased water level.

Analysts said since the flood has reached the confluence in Kogi State,  there is nothing again stopping it from affecting states in the south , but the severity of the disaster is not known yet.
