The United States, Canada and Mexico have entered
into partnership in an effort to curb greenhouse gas (GHG) emission and grow
low-carbon technologies.
The initiative known as North American Climate,
Clean Energy, And Environment Partnership was announced by Canadian Prime
Minister Justin Trudeau, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, and U.S.
President Barack Obama in a meeting at
the North American Leaders Summit in Ottawa.
In addition to the clean energy goal, the countries also plan to phase out inefficient fossil fuel subsidies by 2025, thus reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants from light- and heavy-duty vehicles.
