Child Marriage banned in Gambia, attracts 20 Years jail term

Lawmakers in Gambia today passed a bill, unanimously making Child Marriage a criminal offense.

A Gambian print journalist , Bah Amadou, who was at the Country's  Assembly complex when the bill was passed, broke the news a while ago.

"The ban happened today. Gambia today banned early Child Marriage . Child marriage has now become illegal in the Gambia. Lawmakers currently passing a law banning and criminalizing Child Marriage in the Gambia", he said.

Amadou said, the bill banning Child marriage in the Gambia prescribes 20 years jail term for offenders. 

"In the new law a heavy punishment carrying 20 years jail term without any option of fine".
