America
does not set out to settle political issues affecting other countries with violence;
rather it makes concerted efforts to make peace.
This was the remark of the US Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications, Mr.
Ben Rhodes, during a global live interactive discussion via a video Conference,
organized by US Exchange Programme Alumni Worldwide.
Rhodes
said in crisis situations, America would first rally the support of other well-meaning
countries through diplomacy and only takes actions when all efforts to bring
the matter under control fail.
Mr. Rhodes also said that US would not interfere in other nation’s governance,
and would moderate democratic values so
that willing nations can develop the system at their own pace.
Admitting that aggressive policies by the US has failed to yield the desired results,
Rhodes said the US would continue to moderate the activities of allies so that
nations in need of help could be visible in making decisions that affect them.
Journalists in Lagos participated in the video conference at the US Consulate ,
Victoria Island.
Correspondent
Eunice Olile who was among participating journalists reports that the event was viewed by one hundred and ninety
countries.
