Officials of the Emergency Flood Abatement Department, EFAD, in the Lagos State Ministry of Environment have finally responded to the
appeal on them to clear the piles of refuse which blocked the gutters around
the National Broadcast Academy, Ikeja.
EFAD workers were seen around 11am on Wednesday clearing
the mess with shovels and baskets.
The workers were supervised by two people, a man and a
woman, who said they were officials of the EFAD , but were not in the position to grant interview to journalists.
“Go to Alausa and speak with our boss. We are not in the
position to talk to the press”; the woman said.
They however expressed displeasure that their past efforts
in cleaning the gutter were not acknowledged by the media.
They said instead they heard via radio broadcast as credit was given to LAWMA, saying that EFAD was not a part of LAWMA .
“We don’t like what you people are doing. We have been
clearing this place many times. No acknowledgement. We only head on the radio
where you people thank the LAWMA. We are not part of LAWMA”;she concluded.
All manner of discarded items mostly empty water bottles were carried by running water during rainfall, and deposited in the gutter around the National Broadcast Academy, known before now as Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, training school.
