Dr Ibidun Adelekan of the Department of Geography , University of Ibadan ,while delivering the lecture titled, "Coastal cities at Risk", said that the provision of more drainage channels, effective solid waste management, public awareness about flood management, expansion of relevant personnel's capacity for managing flood and provision of more relief camps for flood victims, should be pursued with vigor.
These measures and many more including the ban on sand mining and building structures on drainage channels , were to mitigate and adapt to flooding that may increase in the coming years based on the research.
Adelekan who is the Lagos leader of the "Coastal Cities at Risk" research team said, by 2030 flooding would have escalated in Lagos, thus enlisting Lagos as among 5 cities most vulnerable to flooding.
