VP Inspects Dangote Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki


Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo has inspected  facilities at Nigeria’s first  private oil refinery , the largest in the World with production capacity of 650,000 barrels of oil per day.


The pioneer oil refinery located in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos,  would  produce 5 million tons of fertilizer per annum making it the second largest fertilizer  production facility in the World.

The refinery is expected to service 26,716 filling stations and  129 depots, as well as has 60,000 project sites .


It is billed to create jobs in the tune of 1,500 employees, and over 100,000 indirect employments.


A presentation on the facility also reveals that it would have 8 gas turbines with capacity to generate 34.5 megawat.


It is going to have 86 loading bays and 2,650 trucks per day.
Over $5 billion per annum is supposed to be earned by the country , by the oil refinery.


For the host community, it would ensure enhanced infrastructural development and job for indigenes.

The inspection exercise polled dignitaries from all walks of lives including Federal and State government functionaries, business moguls ,expatriates  and red cap chiefs from Lagos , especially the host community, Ibeju Lekki.


The refinery owned by Africa’s Richest man , Aliko Dangote is billed to be completed in 2019.


Earlier, Vice President, Osinbajo  with Alhaji Dangote , alongside other Federal Government Officials , business moguls and expatriates, moved  around the site.


Massive work is ongoing, with dozens of workshop buildings and residential houses for workers already constructed.
Different heavy and light duty equipment for the pioneer project dot the entire landscape.


Over 50 journalists from media houses in the country and outside are on ground with their work tools for covering the historic event.
When completed, the refinery would have the  capacity to produce  650,000 barrels of refined crude per day.

  The country needs 260,000 barrels to service local demand.
