Journalists
have been urged to save the country from its current economic problems, by
increasing their investigation and reportage of the oil and gas sector, where
the country derives the bulk of its revenue.
Dr.
Isah Momoh , of the School of Media and Communications, Pan Atlantic University,
Lagos made the call in lecture for journalists.
He said the continuous investigation of the
sector was vital to cleanse it of corruption and usher in a regime of
accountability and transparency, which has been lacking for years.
Dr.
Momoh therefore warned journalists to deist from acting as PRO to some of the organization,
saying that even if such organizations may have done some things well, there
are a lot more to be done to make things better.
The
Don said it was unacceptable that some people , especially the political class,
who occupied certain positions became so rich in a short while, saying that in such cases, journalists should investigate
to disclose their sources of wealth.
He
also there are a lot to be investigated, including how oil wells were allocated
and the benefits the country was deriving from owners of oil wells.
